Meet Amelia Acuna-Teyner, Senior Sales Rep, and read about her career journey at AMP.
My background started in Higher Education! I started my career in Admissions at The University of Findlay immediately after graduation. I had a travel territory and I would travel to different high schools to talk to them about our college admissions requirements and give presentations on all of the academic colleges. Ironically, the territory I first had was Illinois! …who would have known that many of the high schools I attended back then to talk as a recruiter, would be the same cities years down the road I would sell HomePages® Directories in! I also went on to work for The University of Toledo for years, building my career not only in Admissions, but also in Marketing and Communications. My career also led me to Michigan, to have the opportunity to work for The Ross School of Business at The University of Michigan, in Graduate Admissions.
After my husband and I got married, we moved out to the state of Oregon for my husband’s job where I became a middle school teacher. I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and History, as well as putting on many of the school dances and events for the middle school which I thoroughly enjoyed! Any chance I can get to plan, coordinate, or execute an event I will take! My students had many classroom parties after we reached goals in my classroom!
My husband Louie’s job had us traveling quite a bit for a while, and we ended up in Illinois, after Oregon. When I moved to Illinois, I was thinking back on all of my previous job successes and my strengths and thinking that in all aspects I was doing a part of “sales” without even realizing it. I found the company “American Marketing and Publishing” on LinkedIN, and decided to swing by and drop my resume off in person so I could see the building and environment, and instantly knew this was a place I wanted to be a part of. Little did I know that this company would change my life forever.
This November will be 3 years working for the DeKalb Inside Sales Team. I started off in a cross-seller role and after about a year moved into a closer role closing our Homepages® directories and selling Online OPTIMA™ over the phone. I was so nervous I wouldn’t be able to do it, as I had never been in a sales role before. I knew in my heart I wanted it, and knew I would put the work in — and took a leap of faith!
I have never had a job, or been in a position, where I have been able to grow both personally and professionally. Where I have been able to set goals personally, and on a team, where we break barriers and set higher goals that once seemed impossible. AMP gives us the tools we need to apply to our everyday life — the company stands on a firm belief of their missions, led by a CEO who believes in each of us and a constant inspiration to all.
I am forever grateful for this opportunity and work hard daily, weekly, and monthly to be able to set the bar for the pay that I want, work for company trips and more importantly show myself the full potential I have in me because of this job. In the meantime, when I am not working and enjoying my life at AMP, my husband and I spend time with our Sheepadoodle “Stanley” who has so much energy, we try to walk and run him as much as possible. Running is a big passion of mine, and interestingly enough when you find a job that is the perfect fit for you, all other components in your life fall into place. My running, and personal life has gotten even better since I have worked at AMP because I am constantly bettering myself at work which helps me also invest more in my personal life.
Grateful every day that I get to share in the success of our growth at American Marketing and Publishing!
On Amelia’s time at AMP, Lisa Menard had this to say:
“Amelia is an all-around picture perfect AMP employee, Inside Sales team member, and friend to all. She starts everyday with sending us motivational quotes about positivity, strength, and inspiration! Amelia is always someone who embraces change, and takes on any challenge with everything she has. She is radiant and always full of the kind of energy I will always admire about her. When Amelia commits to something and says she is doing something, she owns it wholeheartedly and makes it happen.
Back at the office (she was always the 1st to arrive) you could always count on walking in to that beautiful smile and a warm conversation. She has a unique way about her to calm fears or a belief that something cannot be done with a positive attitude, a strategy and follow up with you on it. Amelia is a beautiful soul inside and out a holds such a special place and perfect example to her peers. Anyone that is fortunate to know Amelia, LOVES AMELIA. I could not be more inspired and proud of Amelia to be able to work by her side daily!”
