AMPlified Success: Cliff Johnson

Meet Cliff Johnson, Senior Digital Sales Representative, and read about his career journey at AMP.

My AMP career started in 2016. Before that, I was a small business owner (Sports Bar, Banquet Hall, and DJ service). I was very successful, but I was working 70-75 hours a week and it was becoming harder and harder to make time for my family. I had to make a decision, or my wife made it for me, by saying, “I didn’t sign up to have a husband I never see.”  Decision was made,  I sold all of my businesses, and started putting resumes out for the first time in my life. I had always worked for myself, so I never went through the interview process, and it was weird. I was used to someone trying to impress me, not the other way around. Enter Nikki Bowman, my hiring recruiter. She was the one who hired me and I will love her FOREVER for giving me an opportunity. Here’s what she doesn’t know, and how she impacted me being at AMP. A day before she called me wanted to interview me, I had just passed my Real Estate Exam to get my license, and I already had a job in place with Coldwell Banker Real Estate. Parts of me didn’t want to listen to a word she had to say, because I worked so hard to get my real estate license, but she was so energetic and excited ABOUT ME. She sold me on how I could still be my own boss working for AMP… working less hours. She figured out what was important to me. Nikki and AMP changed my life forever.

Before AMP, I experienced some trauma driving on the highway, and for 15 years I never drove outside of Muncie. I almost passed on the interview, because I knew I was going to have to drive somewhere outside of my comfort zone. AMP made me face my fears, by having to drive to Indy for the interviews, and to DeKalb, four hours away, for training — nerve wracking for me and my wife. Today, I can drive anywhere in the world, and I owe that to AMP.

In my career with AMP, I’ve had some incredible highs. From selling 15 OPTIMA™ packages in my first full month, and holding that Rookie record for many years, to getting two promotions in my first 90 days with the company, selling to a 22 location multiple package Dental company, being one of the top multi-business\package sellers in the company, and consistently ranked well as a Digital Sales Rep. Mastering the mental consistency this job requires to be successful and have longevity year end and year out. I could go on and on about personal achievements or accomplishments, but that is not what drives me. What drives me is the rush I get when I help a small business owner’s dreams become an reality — taking that bone of a business, and putting meat on it. Turning a sour lemon into LEMONADE. Nothing excites me more than when a customer reaches out to me with an endorsement on how AMP has positively impacted their business. That excites me. Team work makes the dream work.

Working for AMP has given me everything I needed. My Why:  more time for my family. My Drive: taking care of small business owners. My Passion: making money doing something I like that doesn’t feel like work. Work family: team full of talented, caring people. My AMP Nickname given to me from my peers is OG. That is why I love AMP.

My Motto: If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you sell good. If you sell good, you get PAID good.
