We recently hosted a Grow with Google webinar called “Cybersecurity and Your Small Business” to help small business owners tackle digital threats. This event was open to both long-established businesses and those just starting out, with the goal to ensure everyone walked away feeling more confident and protected in their online presence!
Our webinar was led by Ashley Fawkes, Executive Vice President of Sales, who has been with AMP since 2010 and is passionate about helping businesses grow. She was joined by Joshua Belanger, our Director of Network Operations. Joshua brings over 15 years of IT experience and specializes in cloud security and infrastructure, and keeping security simple and customer-focused. Together, they broke down cybersecurity basics into digestible, easy to understand bullet points for small business owners.

Protecting Your Small Business
It’s easy to think cybersecurity is only an issue for larger corporations, but that’s far from the truth. During our webinar, we highlighted that over 65% of small business owners worry about data privacy. Many feel overwhelmed by how or where to start. We wanted to move past the fear and focus on building a proactive plan so you can keep your business running smoothly and maintain your customers’ trust.
The core message of our webinar was about tightening up digital hygiene. We covered how to spot phishing scams and why moving to complex passwords is safer than easy to guess passwords. We also touched on the need for two-step verification and keeping your software updated, which are some of the most effective ways to close potential entry points before hackers can find them.

Beyond simple adjustments, we emphasized that security should be a workplace culture, not just an IT checklist. Small business owners need to set the example by creating and following strict data policies. This encourages an environment where team members feel comfortable reporting security concerns immediately.
Preparation is also key. Having a plan including a list of your tech assets and vendors is crucial for getting back on your feet if something ever happens. We reviewed the necessary immediate steps: contacting your financial institutions, filing reports with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and considering credit freezes.
When in doubt, think before you click.
